Know the right guitar for you

If you go looking for a guitar without knowing just what you will use it for, I promise you will not get the equipment you need. The salespeople are good and frankly, you do not know what you are doing.

So, first steps are to figure out how you will use the guitar and what price range you should be looking in. Do not kid yourself. guitars typically cost several hundred dollars. Do not expect to pay less unless you are willing to sacrifice A LOT of quality. If so, and you are a beginner, fine. If you want to use your equipment for anything close to professional work, there is no way you should expect to pay less than $400 for a quality guitar.

Of course, that is assuming you are considering an electric guitar. If you are strictly interested in classical guitar playing, or focusing on acoustic sound over electric, you will pay less, sometimes substantially less, for an acoustic guitar.

Rather than starting with a substandard electric, most beginners should purchase a quality acoustic guitar first.

But if you are looking custom guitars at auction on this site, the assumption is you are no beginner. Just keep in mind that quality custom guitars will cost more - substantially more - than the base model they are based on.
